Probably not. Instead, try this: go to System Preferences, open the International pane, go to the Input Menu section. There is a list of input methods, like US and also pinyin input. Anyway, among the many choices in the list is Keyboard Viewer. If you click that check mark, and enable the Input Menu to appear in the upper right menu, you will see Keyboard Viewer in that menu. Now, open Keyboard Viewer from there, and try pressing some keys. Most importantly, press the Option key. It's sort of like the Alt key, but I doubt the mappings work the same.

Then when you want to type a mark, and you've learned where it is by using Keyboard Viewer, press option and that key at the same time, then the letter you want to accent. The accent will appear with the letter!

Another thing in the Input Menu is the Character Palette. That's good fun too.

Will this work on r1w's Mac?
