Risking a complete topic shift in the thread if others are as geeky as we, I'll reply with a tad of depth.

After the first movie, I seethed a bit at the loss of Tom Bombadil, the barrows, and the entire Old Forest, as the imagery captured by Tolkien here is some of my favorite in the entire tale. Shortly thereafter, however, I decided that it really wouldn't be worth my time to go around being pissy at how much was lost in the conversion from book to movie. Too much story, too little time, and, in their own right, the movies are QUITE good. I decided to view the remaining two as one person's interpretation of the story, and in that way keep it completely separate in my mind from the glory that is the troo bloo epic.

Good movies, some very nice imagery, I really liked the look of Rohan in its entirety, and while I would definitely have cast some characters differently (I hate hearing "...Mr. Anderson" every time Elrond speaks, for example), I thought some choices couldn't have been better. The actor who played Gimli (name escapes me and I'm too lazy to look it up) had a large portion of a wall fall on him during filming of some movie or other...and was perfectly fine. He walked away from some nasty plane crash, too, and if that's not dwarvish, I don't know what is.

No movie could ever compare to the books. I decided not to try to force the presentation into my own box of what I'm used to, and managed to enjoy it quite a bit that way.

I then went back and re-read the books (for the 50th time or something) and got lost in the true tale once more. H'ray!

Yeah, I babble about some ...interesting things. Don't get me started on hockey (or the lack thereof) either.
