(Un)fortunately I had enough of Takahashi Rumiko a long time ago (after viewing too much of Ranma and Maison Ikkoku) and I'm quite unfamiliar with Inu Yasha although I've read a few chapters of the manga and seen one or two episodes of the anime.

WG, "myouga" () indeed means "unnoticed assistance or protection of the buddha". The first character () means "dark", "shade", "unseen", "invisible" and the second one () stands for "add", "increase", "include". It is one of the kanji for "kago" (), which is the term for "divine protection" (protection () is added ()).
Myouga implies that divine protection is bestowed upon you without your noticing and that you should not solicit it since it will come to you naturally. One should be grateful of the blessings one already receives in one's dairy life from Buddha, notwithstanding its imperceptibleness.
