Voter turnout was the same as in 2004, roughtly 60.7% of all registered people voted. My guess is that everyone expected that voter turnout would be abnormally high, so they went early, and that's why there were lines.

Happened to me. My brother and I woke up at 5:30 AM to go vote, and there was a huge line when the polls opened at 6. By the time we were done voting it was close to 8AM, and the line had died down to just a couple dozen people.
