Handball--four-wall, three-wall, one-wall, singles, doubles, all under-rated. If curling (no disrespect--it's clearly a great sport) is an Olympic sport, why not handball? I don't mean 'team handball'--I certainly don't know why that sport's Olympic. Proper handball has a long history, dating back to King James 1 in 1427. I mean...really.

Table Tennis:
A serious, extremely demanding, and exciting sport with little relationship to your garden variety "Ping Pong" (a trade name). The "equipment" sold for families' basement play is cheap junk that only superficially resembles table tennis rackets, tables, and balls. The sport of table tennis could not be played in your basement, unless you've dug it triple deep or so, and have little else down there in the way. Table tennis can be seriously sexy. |

Table tennis?? One of my favourites.
  I used to take two tables and attach them together to form a Table Tennis table. Then for the net, I put the video tapes lining up together. Then again, I took out the rackets and play together. What fun. In my elementery schoolling days (ouch!) we used to have life science classes every week. So on one period, we are told to build a Table Tennis Racket out of a few planks and a nail. I sawed and sawed and grinded and hammered. Formed a silly racket but it's usable. Very nice to play. I even brought the racket in my vacation in a holiday resort. Until now, the racket is still lying in my storeroom. Gotta show you the picture. Wao.  |

I am avid handball in 1972-73 while station at San Francisco area. My teacher was 6 foot, 280 pound guy so you learn quick to stay out of way and not get too much between him and wall. It is physical sport of wall slam, slip on sweat spot on floor an bust a bum and many 1 inch blue bruise on face, arm and chest from handball missing hand. Many are time hand is swollen until toughen up. It is fine sport and allows sneerage at latter-day squash wimps.
 Nothing quite like taking handball hit on upper lip. Years later I am reuse handball glove to shoot .44 Magnum pistol. It helps a recoil. Cachez ce testicule que je ne saurais voir!

 A one who knowing pleasures of handball! I once playing doubles with guys, my partner go to hit ball, I expect him to lob, he smash ball into slight-right-of dead straight, nice strong ball, unfortingately right into my eye. Good thing of that, I wear the goggles, so only got very pain, enormously black eye. Peopie on the street for weeks follow, asking me if trouble having at the home, need a safe house. I telling them it is okay, cool like dueling scar, playing the handball. Great game, almost no one playing it, too bad. Still have not much feeling in one finger. |
